Big Sad Wolf

Big Sad Wolf

On Thursday we went to East Taieri School to watch a play called The Big Sad Wolf. It was a play based on lots of different fairy tales. The funniest part was when they made up another version of Gangnam Style. My favourite character was Hansel because he kept doing this weird hand shake and talked in a German voice. The play was about a vegetarian wolf that was sad because he had been accused of eating The Boy Who Cried Wolf’s sheep so he hid in the Enchanted Forest. The disgraceful boy blackmailed the wolf by threatening to post a picture on Facebook, Twitter and Trade me of the wolf looking as if to eat a sheep. The only way the wolf could stop the boy posting the picture was to blow down the three little pigs houses. The wolf was allergic to straw and sticks so he couldn’t stop himself sneezing the first two pig’s houses down. When he got to the brick house, the boy who cried wolf set fire to it. The wolf tried to tell the pigs that their house was on fire, but they wouldn’t listen. The wolf accidentally blew down the house when he was trying to blow out the fire. Near the end, the wolf went to court because he had been accused of eating granny. The wolf sneezed and the judge’s clothes came right off. It was really the boy who cried wolf. He had been trying to wipe out all the houses to make a freeway through the enchanted forest and make the wolf get blamed for it all. Just then, the wolf sneezed again and blew the boy’s clothes off completely. At the end they all sang a made up song called “Big Glad Wolfy Smiles”. It was a good comedy play for the end of a busy day.       Callum                4.06.2013

Commenting on the blog...

I made this hand to remind me of the five things I should do if I am commenting on the blog.  I really like the colours I used.  It has a nice background.  I am going to comment on the blog at home or at school...

My new bike

My new bike

Yesterday after school, my twin sister, Stevie, and I went to Wiremu’s house. We all went up to the school to play on the new bikes that mum got us for our birthday. Our birthday is on May the 12th but we had to wait a week for our bikes to arrive. I chose my bike from the Warehouse and Stevie chose hers from K-mart. My bike is a stunt BMX, coloured highlighter green and white. I liked it instantly.  I hope to learn heaps of new tricks and become the best BMX rider in the world. I will have to practise every day after school.
When we all went up to school together Wiremu did not take his bike. He just went on my pegs. We were like a stunt riding double act.   It was really cool!

Seth's artwork

I liked drawing the bee.  I think it is isn't too big.  We used pastels and a vivid.  I sponged yellow, white and green.  We stuck coloured flowers on.  I had green flowers because it suited a tropical forest.  My bee is out from the page because it is buzzing around.

New-born baby stuck in sewer

On Wednesday’s news I saw that in China they heard a baby crying in a sewer pipe. It was a two day old Chinese Baby. People in the building heard a baby crying and called the fire brigade to reach inside and see if there was any sign of life. They found a baby, so bit by bit they cut the pipe and they got the baby out. I feel sad that an innocent baby started its life in a dirty and germ ridden sewer pipe with little air to breathe. It is amazing that the baby survived.                             Stevie 31.5.13

My artwork

This artwork is like my family tree! We used black background paper.  We cut the korus out and stuck them on.   We used chalk to do the outline then went over with marker pen. We used water paint.
It was really fun doing this and made me love doing artwork even more.

My still life painting

My still life painting

At the art gallery we were learning about light and colour. We used hot and cold colours which are red, blue, green, yellow, black, and white. We were drawing buzzy bee paintings. We put fabric flowers on them. We used sponges to paint the background.

Tornado experiment

The tornado sucked all of glitter down to the bottom, we could see a twister of water and glitter.

Mum's birthday

Last night, on Tuesday the 7th of May, we celebrated my mum’s birthday at our house, with a family get-together. The party started as soon as we got home from school. Grandma had made delicious red velvet cupcakes and there was a big bowl of our “family favourite” lollies, chewy pineapple lumps, sitting on the table. Gradually as more people arrived the table was filled with all sorts of sweets and savouries. Grandad Henk taught me Dutch words and I wrote them in my book. I am learning to put them into sentences. I love getting together with my family.  It makes me feel good.

Carisbrook

CARISBROOK

Calder Stewart might demolish the historic Carisbrooke stadium. They think that the demolition price will be $350,000. The Brook got sold to Calder Stewart’s company at an asking price of $ 3.3 million.           R.B 27.5.13

Bee

First you get a little model of a buzzy bee toy and then you draw what you see in pencil first. Then you go over with a black vivid and colour it in. You need a saucer with yellow, green and white paint and you put it on the sponge and sponge it on a bit of black paper like we did. Then we glued our bee and some fabric flowers onto the paper.

highlanders game

Highlanders’ game

On Saturday, at the Highlanders game, there was a streaker. He got tackled by a chicken. The chicken was so happy he was posing as if he was the champion. The Highlanders won against the Auckland Blue’s, 39-27. I felt proud & happy to be watching the Highlanders get their 2nd win for the season.

Granddad's birthday

Granddad’s birthday

Yesterday it was my Granddad’s birthday. We had a big dinner at our house and for dessert we had chocolate log. I made a picture for his birthday card on “Bite Me”. Granddad’s party is on Saturday at the Waihola pub. I am excited to go to the pub because I can choose what I have for dinner and what I drink. Dad lets me have ginger beer. We haven’t bought Granddad’s presents yet but I might make him something.                                   Nathan, 11.6.13

Big Sad Wolf

Big Sad Wolf

As we made our way into East Taieri’s big hall, unknown faces turned to stare at us. I felt
awkward as I knelt down beside Christina. There were only three people in the play, but
the actors were very skilful & talented & played 9 or 10 different characters. The main character, Wolf, had a funny personality. He was a vegetarian, who loved marmite sandwiches & he had allergies to straw & sticks. The only girl in the play, took on many characters, including the first little pig, whose house was blown down, a sheep who helped to blackmail Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, who loved porridge, Snow White, & the huntsman, the most faithful servant of Judge. The only other person who was in the play, took on The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Granny & the second little pig. The Boy Who Cried Wolf was a sneaky, cunning character who was pure evil. He disguised himself as a Judge, which was why Wolf was almost thrown in prison for being tricked into carrying out Boy’s nasty plans. Wolf also played Hansel, who was on The Boy Who Cried Wolf’s side. Boy had an organisation called E.F.F.O.R.T, & they wanted to bulldoze a highway through the Enchanted Forest. This group included Hansel, Snow White, the sheep who helped to blackmail Wolf, the two little pigs, Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood &, of course, The Boy Who Cried Wolf. In the end, Wolf & Huntsman discovered that Boy was pretending to be a Judge & they put an end to the E.F.F.O.R.T organisation. I thought the funniest parts were at the end when huntsman put some straw under Wolf’s nose & Wolf accidentally blew Boy’s clothes off! Right before the end, the characters danced & sang to a song similar to Gangnam Style. The song had the same music, but the words were different. I would love to see that play again.

Tornados in a bottle

Rowan and Wiremu constructing their Tornado Bottle.
Our experiment didn't work the first time because we filled the bottle up too much and didn't spin the water inside to start a tornado spinning. (Holly and Claudia)
If you look closely you can see the tornado funnel inside the bottle spinning around. (Nathan and Rowan)
I enjoyed doing the experiment, we coloured our water blue with dye, it took me a couple of goes to get it right and get the tornado going. (Wiremu)

Why did we do this experiment?  We did this so we could see how air moves during a tornado and learn about wind currents. It was really fun watching the tornado in a bottle. (Nathan)

Bubble Experiment

We heated the air in the white tube with a flame to warm the air inside - it felt pretty cool to be responsible to do this (Ms McKergow was watching closely though!), The air felt warm rising from the tube.
We blew bubbles over the top of the tube to see what would happen to the bubbles.

What we saw: We saw the bubbles rising quickly when they moved over the heat stream. This shows us that hot air rises, which happens to air in nature when it is heated by the sun.

Air Pressure Experiment

1) First we filled up our cup of water to the very top.

 2) Then we placed a piece of cardboard on the top and pushed out any air bubbles.
 3) Now we took our hand away from the card and the water stayed in the cup.
4) It is a good thing the water stayed in the cup or I would be soaked!!!! hahaha

Why did this happen??  The water stayed in the cup because the air pressure has force or strength to overcome gravity. The air pressure pushes against the cardboard and stops the water flowing out.

Coralis Effect Experiment

We did an experiment with a drill and a pen to show what happens to hot air that rises as the Earth spins. We saw the marks on the cardboard were a spiral shape because the drill was spinning the cardboard around and around. This is called the Coralis Effect. We really liked the patterns that were made on the cardboard as it spun.
