                                         Standing still

This is what our house design looked like. We were challenging 4 other groups with heaps of good ideas to keep our houses standing on a sand hill. I decided to make a Tee Pee to help our house stay up. 

This is our house after the first sprinkle of water, it didn't change much it just stayed up.

Thanks to Stevie idea to have a stick tee pee around our house.

Overall we were the group that won the challenge as our house stayed in place and was not damaged. It was a tough challenge but we were pleased with how well our house did. If we did the challenge again we would maybe build our house on a giant rock to make our house more stable and instead of using sticks around the outside we would put sticks under our house to anchor it to the hill. We had lots of fun and enjoyed being outside in the sandpit.

Gymnastics

In Room 2 we have been doing gymnastics with Ms Bell. We did cartwheels, dives, flips and forward rolls. Here are some photos and short movies of us doing those things.

Gymnasticks

 

We are down at the hall with Ms Bell. We run up to a spring board jump on to a big board, called the box or horse,  then on to a soft, floppy mat to make sure that we don't get hurt. I am very good at gymnastics.

Tirohanga Camp Cross Country

Well done Waihola students  Everyone put in such a big effort and should feel very proud of themselves.  We all enjoyed the competition, the mud and the sunshine. Thanks parents for being involved. Road safety

At school we have been learning about Road safety and we made these videos. 

Hockey Tournament

On Thursday, the 11^th of July Harvey, Wiremu, Callum, Rowan, Aaron, Nathan, Stevie and Holly went to the Hockey Tournament in Milton at Milton Primary School’s field. Their team name was the Waihola Terminators. The team worked together, and won the tournament. They played against a team from Waitahuna in the finals, and bet them, 6-2 points! It was an exhilarating day which had everybody puffing by the time they got back to school.                          By Holly                12.7.13

Rippa Rugby with Mitch

Today we had Rippa rugby training with Mitch and Nicole. We played a game where we had to stay in a set square and rip as many tags off other players before time ran out. It was very hard to keep your tags safe from attacking players.  The most tags I got by the end was four. It was a hard and exhausting job.                      By Callum and Wiremu   

Room 2 Blog experts work with junior children

Aaron, Stevie & Alex received some individual training from Anne K then worked with junior class children to help them post their own work to the BLOG. Commenting on the blog...

I made this hand to remind me of the five things I should do if I am commenting on the blog.  I really like the colours I used.  It has a nice background.  I am going to comment on the blog at home or at school...

New-born baby stuck in sewer

On Wednesday’s news I saw that in China they heard a baby crying in a sewer pipe. It was a two day old Chinese Baby. People in the building heard a baby crying and called the fire brigade to reach inside and see if there was any sign of life. They found a baby, so bit by bit they cut the pipe and they got the baby out. I feel sad that an innocent baby started its life in a dirty and germ ridden sewer pipe with little air to breathe. It is amazing that the baby survived.                             Stevie 31.5.13

I wonder . . .

Air Pressure Experiment

1) First we filled up our cup of water to the very top.

 2) Then we placed a piece of cardboard on the top and pushed out any air bubbles.

 3) Now we took our hand away from the card and the water stayed in the cup.

4) It is a good thing the water stayed in the cup or I would be soaked!!!! hahaha


Why did this happen??  The water stayed in the cup because the air pressure has force or strength to overcome gravity. The air pressure pushes against the cardboard and stops the water flowing out.
