We had to identify seeds in E.E. Some of the seeds were corn, radishes, peas and beans. By Callum

Golf Tournament
Golf Tournament
Yesterday there was a golf tournament at the Toko golf field. Our team was Aaron, Alex and I. We scored 101 points over all 9 holes. I won a golf ball because I was using the coaching to get better. I think my biggest hit off the tee was when we were on the last hole because it went about one quarter of the way to the hole. By Callum 27.8.13

Blue coming to my house
Blue coming to my house
On Sunday,
Blue came to my house. We made a big grass wall and smashed it with my little
dump truck. When we did that the dump truck flipped and rolled over. Then we
went to the school to play with our bikes for 30 minutes. Half an hour later we
went home and dropped a plastic man called Steve out the window up the stairs.
Then Blue went home. It was fun.

Which bulb is best? -Science Experiment
Thursday 22nd of August
During our studies on renewable energy sources we decided we wanted to find out if energy saving light bulbs were worth using. Some of the class had seen an advertisement on television that showed a chocolate teddy bear melting over a light bulb. We had also read during one of our web searches that a lot of the energy that is used to power light bulbs is lost as heat. We decided to test out if energy saving light bulbs or regular bulbs gave off the most heat and light based on the watts needed to run them. We brainstormed how we could test this, the equipment we would need and how we could design a fair test.
We set up the experiment in the classroom and watched to see the results. Our hypothesis was that the more energy needed to power the bulb the faster the chocolate would melt (we used chocolate frogs, not bears for our experiment).
The class designing the experiment with the equipment.
Brainstorming what we had to do to make it a fair test.
We had to make all of the lights the same height from the chocolate frogs,
Almost ready to melt some froggies!
The energy saving bulb was much brighter, but with less heat.
In the end the frog over the regular bulb was really melted and the one on the torch and flashlight were hardly melted at all. So our hypothesis was correct! Then it was time to eat the chocolate - YUM!

Room 2 Measurement Challange - Area
In room 2 Ms McKergow set us the challenge of working out what the total area of our class was. We needed to find out how much floor space we had so we could place an order for new carpet (just a pretend order). We brainstormed ways to do this. Alex wanted to draw out meter squares all over the room, Wiremu decided that using paper squares to place on the floor might work and Callum suggested that we measure the length and width of the class to work it out. We decided that measuring the length and width would be the easiest way. We all estimated the area and found that our guesses were not 100% accurate. The floor space ended up being approximately 95 meters squared.
A Visit From The Experts
Last week we had a visit from Bob Lloyd and Esther Haines who are professors at the University Of Otago. They talked to us about wind and solar energy. We learnt that the biggest wind turbines in the world generate 5 megawatts or 5,000,000 watts while the biggest ones in New Zealand only generate 3 megawatts. The most shocking thing we learnt was that France has the most nuclear power plants in the world. The biggest wind farm in the world generates 100,000,000 watts of electricity. We really enjoyed having Bob and Esther and hope they come back soon. By Rowan and Callum. 15.8.13

Road safety.
Thanks Nathan for getting some photos of possible hazards around our school gate. We are being road safety detectives as part of our road safety unit. Please post any great ideas for making our school drop off area even safer.
